A bold reveal: a top-tier cast is set to bring Erica Schmidt’s The Disappear to life Off-Broadway, with plans to evolve it into an Audible Original. The project marks Schmidt’s continued collaboration with Audible, after her previous Audible original Lucy, and signals a broader future for the new play as both stage and audio experience.
Audible Theater has announced the complete lineup for the world premiere, which Schmidt both wrote and directs. The production is slated to begin performances on January 8, 2026, with an official opening night on January 15 at the Minetta Lane Theatre. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through February 15, after which The Disappear is expected to transition into an Audible Original audio release in the months that follow.
At the center of the show is a power couple whose flawless life suddenly spirals out of control, entangling their friends, extramarital affairs, and their daughter in a tangle of secrets. The cast features Dylan Baker, Madeline Brewer, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Hamish Linklater, Anna Mirodin, and Miriam Silverman.
Key design and production personnel include Brett J. Banakis (set design), Jennifer Moeller and Miriam Kelleher (costume design), Cha See (lighting design), and Palmer Hefferan (sound design). Merrick A. B. Williams will act as production stage manager, with Mary Kate Baughman serving as assistant stage manager. Beacon Theatrical Services provides theatrical supervision, and ShowTown Theatricals handles general management. Casting is led by Caparelliotis Casting, under David Caparelliotis and Joe Gery.
